Florida Coast
Wildlife of Florida’s Shoreline
The Florida Coast series focuses on wildlife shaped by Florida’s beaches, barrier islands, estuaries, and nearshore waters. These graphite drawings explore the fragile meeting place of land and sea, where tides, wind, and shifting sands create a constantly changing habitat for marine and coastal species. Each work reflects the movement, vulnerability, and quiet endurance of life along Florida’s shoreline.
Loggerhead Hatchling
Florida Coast No. 1
Caretta caretta
Along Florida’s beaches, loggerhead hatchlings emerge from the sand and begin their first journey toward the open ocean. Guided by instinct and the glow of the horizon, only a small number will survive the long migration ahead. This graphite drawing reflects the fragile beginning of that journey and the enduring cycle of life along Florida’s coast.
